Landlords feel the heat as Lambeth plans to introduce a compulsory licensing scheme for the private sector - BrixtonBuzz

Lambeth Council is set to introduce a compulsory licensing scheme for private landlords across the borough.

Four wards are being trialed as part of this scheme: Knights Hill, Streatham Common & Vale, Streatham Hill East and Streatham St Leonards will be the first wards to see the roll out of the scheme.

Private landlords will need to pay the Council £923 for a five year licence. This is broken down as £650 for admin, and £273 for any possible enforcement.

As a comparison, Southwark Council currently charges £900, Greenwich £858 and Waltham Forest £700.

We Own It is a campaign group opposing privatisation and demanding 21st century public ownership.

They rightly believe that public services belong to all of us – from the NHS to schools, water to energy, rail to Royal Mail, care work to council services.

They recently posted a list of GP Practices taken over by the US health insurance giant Centene, through its UK subsidiary, Operose Health, and this included three in Streatham.

These are:

Two Lambeth Council by-elections confirmed following Gaza resignation and political careerist ambitions on the South Coast - BrixtonBuzz

Two by-elections for Lambeth Council have been confirmed for 2nd May – the same day that voters will go to the polls for the London Mayoral elections.

Residents in Knight’s Hill and Streatham Common & Vale will have the opportunity to elect a new Councillor. This follows the resignation of two Labour Councillors for different reasons.

Ex-Cabinet member Cllr Sonia Winifred resigned her seat after she was disciplined by Lambeth Labour for supporting a ceasefire in Gaza.
