Lambeth Conservatives unveil their candidate for Streatham Common & Vale, Promise Phillips - BrixtonBuzz

Description

With the forthcoming Streatham Common & Vale by-election approaching on May 2nd, residents in the ward have a chance to vote for a new voice to represent them on Lambeth Council.

Promise has been one of the key campaigners against the recently suspended, but not scrapped, Streatham Wells LTN, which caused bus journeys to end early, thereby stranding

passengers, short journeys taking up to three hours to complete and Streatham High Road coming to a standstill.

“We have had enough of Labour Lambeth doing what they want with no concern or thought to how it effects people who live and work in the area. We need to have a change of direction in our area and I have a proven track record of listening and engaging with residents over this important matter”.

Promise also supports a judicial review into the Woodgate Drive 14-storey development: “There is a requirement for housing in the area and we want to welcome people who want to live in Streatham.

Any such developments, however, need to have due regard both for the accompanying infrastructure requirements, such as good and effective transport links, doctors’ surgeries and schools, and for a redevelopment that is in keeping with the skyline of the area.

When I was a candidate in the May 2022 local elections in this ward, I and my fellow Conservative candidates called for this development to be restricted to 7 storeys.”

Promise also wants to hold Lambeth Council to account over Houses for Multiple Occupancy (HMO) approvals so that small HMO conversions of houses in SC&V by property developers become subject to planning controls by Lambeth Council: “I don’t want to see proposed housing conversions such as “small HMOs” continuing to have a negative impact on residents.”

Promise also says about his selection “I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to have been selected to run in the Streatham Common & Vale by-election.

This presents a remarkable opportunity for Local Conservatives to defy the odds and make a significant impact in a borough traditionally dominated by Labour. Now is the time for us to unite and mobilise, ensuring that every voice is heard and every vote counts. Together, we can push for a positive result and bring about real change for our community”.
