A murder probe has been launched after a man died in a suspected arson attack at a home in Streatham, south London, on Sunday evening.

Police were called to the fatal blaze at a multi-occupancy home in Glenister Park Road shortly after 7pm, where a 49-year-old man was found dead inside.

The commercial toast of London is quite often cooked by Europeans — Italian or Turkish or Greek. These cafes and their fried breakfasts are seminal. But here is one run by Moroccans, a place for fried eggs but also for tagine.

I found Lala Café along Streatham Hill, above the High Road (Europe’s longest high street), in a part of London made famous by Naomi Campbell, Dave (the rapper), and the late June Whitfield. It is opposite the Mediterranean Food Centre (MFC), surely one of London’s best independent grocers.

An armed policeman who crashed while racing to the scene of the Streatham terrorist attack has said he “failed due to split-second error” and “let people down”.

Pc Paul Fisher, 46, was behind the wheel of an unmarked BMW X5 when he lost control and ran in to the back of a taxi driver’s Toyota before hitting a Ford Fiesta and a wall.

A group of local residents blocked cars on a road in south London as part of a protest against the area becoming a Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN).

As part of the trial, only buses and taxis are able to enter Valley Road from both ends, with motorists who take the same route facing a fine of £130 from next Monday.

Locals say the signs are difficult to see, and argue that the introduction of the LTN has made traffic on the surrounding streets worse.

A speeding BMW driver who killed a Deliveroo rider in a hit-and-run crash after jumping a red traffic light has been jailed for almost 10 years.

Abdiraham Ahmed, 20, was travelling at speeds of up 60mph in a 20mph zone when he crashed into 44-year-old Ronaldo De Oliveira’s moped in Streatham.

Mr De Oliveira was airlifted to hospital after the collision on May 11 this year, but died from his injuries.
