Streatham man jailed after terrorist material found

Declan George-Candiani from Streatham was sentenced at the Old Bailey on Friday (November 28) to 23 months in prison.

The 26-year-old will also serve an additional year on licence and remain subject to notification requirements for 10 years.

George-Candiani was stopped by Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) officers at Stansted on August 13 last year.

Officers examined his phone and later searched his home, seizing an iPad.

Detectives found documents linked to terrorism, including guides on carrying out so-called “lone wolf” attacks.

TikTok creator @adamlondontalks recently listed the most and least desirable places to live across all 32 London boroughs, placing Thornton Heath at the bottom for Croydon.

Such rankings come from factors like crime, but this paints a one-dimensional picture of an area without acknowledging its strengths.

Although it’s often overshadowed by neighbouring Crystal Palace, Norbury and Croydon town centre, Thornton Heath is a bustling, multicultural neighbourhood with strong transport links, an active community and a lively high street.

He says the leak was left to spread for weeks, eventually interfering with the electrics, flooding a switch box and cutting off his power before it was finally fixed and remediation work began.

This is due to engineering work and will affect trains from Monday to Friday (November 24 to November 28).

Engineering work is taking place from approximately 11.30pm until the end of service between London Bridge and Norwood Junction, closing some lines.

A casualty on the tracks was reported just before 5.40am on yesterday (November 9).

Officers and London Ambulance Service crews attended, however, the man was pronounced dead shortly after.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

Gatwick Express services between East Croydon and Clapham Junction were cancelled as the incident was dealt with.

All lines reopened just before 9am.

No Southern trains running to and from Sutton this weekend

The works will stop trains on Sunday (November 2) only.

Trains will run as normal on Saturday (November 1).

No Southern trains will run between West Croydon and Epsom Downs, Streatham and Suttonor Epsom via Mitcham Junction

Replacement buses will run between West Croydon and Epson Downs via Sutton, calling at all stations.

They will also run between Streatham and Epsom via Sutton, calling at Streatham Hill, Streatham Common and all stations via Mitcham Junction.

Journey times will be increased when using replacement buses.
