Ruach City Church, a non-denominational Pentecostal church with sites in Kilburn, Walthamstow and Birmingham, bought the venue two years ago.

It has now asked Lambeth Council to rubberstamp the theatre’s use as a place of worship.

Following his visit, Mr Reed said that it was a “pleasure” to see the “important work” the church was doing.

Transport for London (TfL) is pressing ahead with the project, which will make changes to the road between Sternhold Avenue and Holmewood Road, five years after it was first proposed.

The scheme will see new pedestrian crossings and cycle lanes built, while some parking bays will be removed to clear bus lanes of obstructions.

Transport bosses claim that the changes will make it “easier, safer and more pleasant” for people to walk and cycle in the area.
