Why Thornton Heath isn't Croydon's 'least desirable' area

TikTok creator @adamlondontalks recently listed the most and least desirable places to live across all 32 London boroughs, placing Thornton Heath at the bottom for Croydon.

Such rankings come from factors like crime, but this paints a one-dimensional picture of an area without acknowledging its strengths.

Although it’s often overshadowed by neighbouring Crystal Palace, Norbury and Croydon town centre, Thornton Heath is a bustling, multicultural neighbourhood with strong transport links, an active community and a lively high street.

He says the leak was left to spread for weeks, eventually interfering with the electrics, flooding a switch box and cutting off his power before it was finally fixed and remediation work began.

This summer, Ms Byfield set out her concerns in an email to Croydon North and Streatham MP Steve Reed, highlighting what she called “severe problems” with the ground source heating system at the neighbouring block, 55-133 College Green.

This is due to engineering work and will affect trains from Monday to Friday (November 24 to November 28).

We have broken down the details for you to plan ahead this weekend.

Engineering work is taking place from approximately 11.30pm until the end of service between London Bridge and Norwood Junction, closing some lines.

Streatham Common station Gatwick Express incident: Man dies

A casualty on the tracks was reported just before 5.40am on yesterday (November 9).

Officers and London Ambulance Service crews attended, however, the man was pronounced dead shortly after.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

Gatwick Express services between East Croydon and Clapham Junction were cancelled as the incident was dealt with.

All lines reopened just before 9am.

No Southern trains running to and from Sutton this weekend

The works will stop trains on Sunday (November 2) only.

Trains will run as normal on Saturday (November 1).

No Southern trains will run between West Croydon and Epsom Downs, Streatham and Suttonor Epsom via Mitcham Junction

Replacement buses will run between West Croydon and Epson Downs via Sutton, calling at all stations.

They will also run between Streatham and Epsom via Sutton, calling at Streatham Hill, Streatham Common and all stations via Mitcham Junction.

Journey times will be increased when using replacement buses.

Woodbourne Avenue Streatham murder probe: Man charged

Police were called to Woodbourne Avenue on May 16 following the death of 81-year-old Robert Hill.

At the time, his death was not believed to be suspicious.

However new information then came to light, which led to a murder investigation being launched.

David Souttar, 22, of Chelsham Road in Clapham, was charged with murder last Thursday (October 23) after being arrested on October 16.

He appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court the day after (October 24), where he was remanded into custody.

SL15 Superloop to stop in Forest Hill, Catford and Eltham

The proposed route will run along the A205 South Circular Road, operating as a single-deck bus service due to a low bridge on Thurlow Park Road.

Buses are expected to run every 12 minutes from Monday to Saturday between 5am and 12.30am, and every 15 minutes on Sundays, evenings and early weekday mornings.

TfL says the SL15 will reduce journey times and create faster connections between local centres, railway stations, and key work and leisure destinations.

Monday to Thursday (October 20 to October 23):

Engineering work is taking place overnight between Streatham and Sutton via Mitcham Junction, closing some lines.

The 11.15pm train from Dorking to London Victoria train will be diverted between Sutton and Balham and run non-stop.

Six injured after shootings and stabbings across London

The capital has seen bloodshed every day this week between Monday and Friday (October 6 to October 10).

This includes knife incidents in Streatham, West Drayton, Kilburn, Waterloo and gun shots fired in New Southgate and Walthamstow.

Man taken to hospital after stabbing outside Starbucks in Streatham Hill

The first incident this week began in Streatham Hill, after a stabbing outside a Starbucks on Monday (October 6) at around 1pm.
