Burst main affecting water supplies to 18,000 households - Inside Croydon
Description

Up to 18,000 households across Croydon and three other boroughs have been affected by a burst water main today “on a field” near to Watneys Road, which borders Mitcham Common.

Homes have encountered reduced water pressure, or no supply at all.

Properties, some schools and business premises in CR0, CR2, CR4, CR7, CR8, CR9, SM6 and SW16 are known to have been affected.

In its latest update, timed at just after 11am, Thames Water stated: “We are still on site working hard.

“At this moment, we have managed to stop the flow of water and working to remove the standing water in the area. This will allow us to start excavating down to the damaged section of the pipework in order to carry out the fix.

“Water tankers will be in the area to support customers while repairs are ongoing.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this may be causing and thank you for your patience and support while we work to resolve the issue.”

Thames Water added: “If you think you’ve seen anything unusual, including water pooling on roads or pavements, please give us a call on 0800 316 9800.

“We’re sorry about the disruption to your water supply… Thank you for your continued support and patience.”

Thames Water promised a further update on its incident website by 2pm. Click here to visit the incident website.
