Discover Lambeth’s history at this year’s Heritage Festival

History on your doorstep

This year’s programme gives residents plenty of opportunities to explore Lambeth’s history, including:

The Lambeth Local History Fair at Brixton Library

Guided walks exploring local neighbourhoods and landmarks

Talks, exhibitions and archive tours

Community-led heritage events

Events marking the 75th anniversary of the Festival of Britain

Events will take place across the borough, including Brixton, Clapham, Waterloo, Vauxhall, Streatham and West Norwood.

Ghosts of the High Street

The festival begins on 1 September with Ghosts of the High Street: A Retrospective of Works by David Western, 1999–2026 at Lambeth Archives.

The free exhibition features more than 25 years of work by Brixton-based printmaker and artist David Western.

His maps, drawings and prints explore South London’s changing streets and landscapes, from lost rivers and demolished buildings to disappearing businesses and other hidden parts of local history. The exhibition runs until 3 October.

“Our Heritage Festival is a great opportunity to discover those stories and explore the history that is all around us. With more than 80 events taking place throughout September, there is something for everyone, and I encourage residents to get involved.”
