Submitted by daniel on Fri, 10/07/2026 - 08:07 Picture Image Description The principal authority council by-elections this week started with a pair on Tuesday: Congratulations to new councillor Terry Weldon and the team in the first of a pair of by-elections int he same patch. The other Lib Dem winner in this pair of contests was Oli Leach, again congratulations. Then on Thursday, which saw another fourteen contests, there was a Liberal Democrat gain from the Greens, with the party jumping up from third place to win: Congratulations to Alex Davies and the team on winning here in a by-election caused by one of the Green candidates having been arrested before polling day and then resigning soon after being elected. This is the first Lib Dem council by-election gain in Lambeth since 2008. Here is one of the pieces of literature: This was one of two contests in Lambeth, the other being: The May elections in this ward saw a split result in a three-member ward, and hence the vote share changes despite it being a Green hold. There was also this pair of Lib Dem successful defences: The new Liberal Democrat councillor here is Faron Hadfield-Jones – congratulations! Congratulations here to new councillor Tyler Wragg. As the Eastern Daily Press reports of this win in Steffan Aquarone’s constituency: A 20-year-old has swept to a landslide victory in a Norfolk by-election to become the youngest councillor in the county. But there was also: Commiserations to Tina Ballinger on this narrow defeat in Manuela Perteghella’s constituency. Elsewhere: Congratulations to Hayley Davies for not only getting the Lib Dems on the ballot paper here after the previous no-show but also securing such a promising third place. Thank you to Henry Potts for being the Liberal Democrat here. The Lib Dem here was Jonathan Aibi – thank you. It was thanks to Linda Park that the previous Lib Dem no show in this ward was not repeated; thank youi. It was Gabriela Ferguson who got the Lib Dems on the ballot paper here after the previous no show – thank you. The Lib Dem candidate here after the previous no-show was Lee Herring – thank you.
