National Rail has not clarified the nature of the incident, but a London Air Ambulance was seen landing in the area. Transport for London (TfL) referred to this as a “customer incident”. The London Ambulance Service has said a man died at the scene. No further details about the death have been shared at this time, although the British Transport Police has been approached for more information. Thameslink trains between Streatham and Sutton have been closed while emergency services were called to the tracks. South Western Railway trains have also been delayed. It is expected that major disruption will last all day. A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called today (Mon 8) at 2.23pm to reports of an incident at Wimbledon rail station, SW19. “We sent resources including ambulance crews, advanced paramedic practitioners, incident response officers, members of our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and London’s air ambulance. “Sadly, a man was pronounced dead at the scene."
