The two arched openings with the fan-shaped carving inside are shell hoods (sometimes called scallop or scallop-shell hoods). This is a signature Baroque revival / Queen Anne motif; a carved half-dome resembling a scallop shell set over a door or niche. They were hugely popular on English domestic architecture from the late 17th century onward and revived heavily during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras (c. 1880s–1910s).
