Lambeth campaigners react as Palestine solidarity leaders convicted for trying to march to BBC over Gaza coverage Submitted by daniel on Thu, 02/04/2026 - 17:45 Picture Image Figures from across the borough have voiced alarm at the conviction of Palestine Solidarity Campaign director Ben Jamal and Stop the War vice chair Chris Nineham, found guilty at Westminster Magistrates’ Court yesterday 1 April 2026 of breaching Public Order Act conditions imposed on a planned march to the BBC over its Gaza coverage in January 2025. Jamal received an 18-month conditional discharge, Nineham 12 months, and both were ordered to pay £7,500 in prosecution costs. Jamal was also convicted of inciting others to breach the conditions. The consultations on Effra, Triangle and Maytree nursery schools were abruptly ended on Monday 16 March, with the council seizing on a government White Paper published three weeks earlier to justify withdrawing the controversial proposals. Supported by Parkinson’s UK, the new sessions are designed to be a fun and friendly way for local people living with Parkinson’s and similar neurological conditions or mobility issues to get active. Delivered by local instructor, Dixie Thomas, the chair dancing classes are designed to be adaptable, accessible and above all, fun. We popped along on a jam-packed Saturday night and navigated a jumping dance floor to bring you these photos: In a borough where the night economy is struggling to survive, it was great to see a community pub full of happy people, but the owners are still finding it hard to make ends meet as operating costs keep on rising. Strut Safe launches world’s first ‘Strut Stop’ as over 75% of people say they feel unsafe walking home alone at night Submitted by daniel on Fri, 06/03/2026 - 07:15 Picture Image Strut Safe, the volunteer-run phone line that helps people feel safer on their journey home, is launching the UK’s first ‘Strut Stop’, a new initiative sign-posting safe waiting spaces for anyone heading home late at night. The first locations will be at Morley’s Stockwell and Dalston Junction. The launch of the ‘Strut Stop’ comes as new research from Strut Safe’s community reveals the wide scale of concern for getting home safely: 77% of respondents say they feel unsafe walking home alone at night, while 94% have changed or cancelled plans because of safety concerns.
