Labour-run Lambeth Council has suspended the Streatham Wells LTN in London which has caused traffic nightmares since being introduced in October last year. The A23, which runs along the western side of the LTN and is one of the main routes out of London into Surrey, was constantly gridlocked. The London Mayor revealed today that his team had been in touch with Lambeth council to try and resolve the issues being created by the Streatham Wells LTN, which has seen buses travelling as slowly as 1.5mph. The Labour politician, who is seeking re-election in May, told LBC: 'It's not working and we've asked the council to look at it urgently.' Mayara Loiola Ataide, 34 and Gevaldo Tavares Dos Santos, 46 both of no fixed address, were charged this morning. They were also charged with two counts of arson with intent to endanger life. Both will appear in custody at Bromley Magistrates' Court later today. The blaze broke out at a multi-occupancy house on Glenister Park Road in Streatham at 7.07pm on Sunday, 25 February. The Streatham Wells LTN in London has caused traffic chaos since the trial was introduced in October 2022. The congestion is so bad at peak times that buses are being diverted around and even though the zone to avoid gridlock. Transport for London (TfL) data shows that last week the A23, which runs along the western side of the LTN, became so bogged down in traffic that it took the bus 121 minutes to travel 2.9 miles. PC Paul Fisher, 46, was last month cleared of dangerous driving over a collision he was involved in while en route to Streatham in south London, where terrorist Sudesh Amman stabbed two people in February 2020. A court heard the officer made a 'split-second error' when he lost control of his unmarked BMW X5 and ran in to the back of a taxi driver's Toyota before hitting a Ford Fiesta and a wall.
