A political firestorm has ignited in Westminster following an explosive report by The Daily Telegraph, which suggests that Sir Keir Starmer was explicitly warned about Lord Peter Mandelson’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein months before the ill-fated ambassadorial appointment.

The report, which has dominated the news cycle on Tuesday 10 February 2026, claims that senior figures—including Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy—had privately cautioned the Prime Minister that Mandelson’s "baggage" was too high a risk for the UK’s most sensitive diplomatic post.

A Streatham man has been returned to prison after he was caught exposing himself and masturbating on a train just 12 days after being released from a previous jail sentence for the same crime.

James Gathercole, 40, and of Leigham Court Road, has been jailed for two years and four months.

He was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on 2nd February having pleaded guilty to two counts of Exposure, as well as being in breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and the conditions of his prison release licence.

A murder investigation is under way following the death of a man in a house fire in Streatham.

Police were called to the multi-occupancy house in Glenister Park Road by the London Fire Brigade at 19:07 on Sunday 25th February.

A 49-year-old man was found dead inside the property.

Police say his next of kin have been informed and are being supported by family liaison officers.

The fire is thought to have been started deliberately and is being treated as suspicious. Further enquiries are taking place.
