The A23 in Streatham Hill, south London, is going to have a £9.5 million refurbishment, which will see pedestrian crossings built, a protected cycle lane added and bus lanes improved. The improvements will see the old central reservation removed across the 0.6-mile stretch between the junctions of Holmewood Road on Brixton Hill and Sternhold Avenue junction on Streatham Hill. Sue, 70, and Bill Aylott. 71, moved into their house in Streatham in 1979 bringing up their two children and recently celebrating their Golden wedding anniversary at what they thought was their forever home. But just before Christmas the couple, who are in their seventies, received a notification from Lambeth Council that they would have to move out. The collision on Surrey Quays Road, near Canada Water, early yesterday evening triggered a major emergency response, with police, paramedics and an air ambulance scrambled to the scene. The boy, whose age has not yet been confirmed, was tended to at the scene before being rushed to a major trauma centre in a critical condition. His family has been informed. Thames Water has said they have had to close their distribution hub in Sainsbury’s car park in Lower Sydenham after ‘security incidents’ as desperate customers foughtfor their share.
