Metropolitan Police officer Blake shot the 24-year-old in Streatham, south-east London, in September 2022 after Mr Kaba tried to ram his way past police cars that had hemmed him in. Despite this, the Independent Office for Police Conduct said in April that Blake will still have to face gross misconduct proceedings, stating “the legal test for deciding whether there was a case to answer is low” and has been met. Gang member Mr Kaba was shot by police officer Martyn Blake after trying to ram his way past police cars in Streatham, south-east London, in September 2022. The IOPC complained to the broadcaster after the Panorama episode initially aired without including its statement in reaction to claims by former regional director Sal Naseem. The review was launched by the previous government in 2023, amid anger over the decision to prosecute Metropolitan Police firearms officer Martyn Blake over the fatal shooting of Mr Kaba.
