Snake Valley supports Carranballac recovery Submitted by daniel on Tue, 10/03/2026 - 09:00 Picture Image SNAKE Valley’s Royal Hotel hosted a special fundraiser recently to support the Carranballac Cricket Club community following the Skipton–Streatham bushfires which destroyed the Carranballac clubrooms. The fire recovery fundraiser, with special guest cricketer Merv Hughes, was held on February 27th and saw around 100 people gather at the hotel for an afternoon aimed at raising money and bringing the community together. After the Streatham–Skipton grass fire, and the way overgrown fence lines appeared to carry flames in strong winds, many locals have begun asking the same question: who is meant to deal with it? The fire recovery fundraiser at Snake Valley’s Royal Hotel will be held on February 27 from 12pm to 6pm, bringing together community for an afternoon of food, entertainment. A commitment at Carranballac Submitted by daniel on Mon, 19/01/2026 - 20:00 Picture Image The Streatham grassfire ignited shortly after 1.30pm on Friday, driven by catastrophic heat and westerly winds that tore across open country at more than 80 kilometres an hour. In a matter of hours it carved a path through Carranballac farmland and pressed hard toward Skipton, forcing frantic decisions from people who had minutes, not plans. A fault in Nott Road Ararat has seen power cut to residents in Ararat South, Lake Bolac, Maroona, Tatyoon, Willaura, Moyston, Streatham, Wickliffe, Westmere, Cathcart, Caranballac, Mininera, Langi Logan, Rossbridge and Norval. Local faith groups unite after Bondi attack Submitted by daniel on Sun, 21/12/2025 - 00:00 Picture Image SEVERAL denominations joined together last Monday to mourn the horrendous loss of 15 people at Bondi Beach on Sunday. 15 people were killed when 50-year-old Sajid Akram and his 24-year-old son Naveed opened fire at a Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach. A further 21 people remain in hospital including one in a critical condition.
