Description

Anyone who didn't know who Cat Burns was before watching The Celebrity Traitors certainly will now. She's been tasked with the unenviable job of deceiving her fellow celebrities as a Traitor. And from the first episode alone, it was clear that Cat means business.

Her co-Traitors, Jonathan Ross and Alan Carr, have been slightly less impressive... with Jonathan forgetting he had a shield after the first mission and Alan sweating profusely during every conversation.

If you're already hooked on the first celebrity edition of the show and want to know more about Cat, her singing career and why she wanted to go on the show, you've come to the right place.

Who is Cat Burns?

British-Liberian Cat Burns, whose full name is Catrina Burns-Teminson, is a singer-songwriter is from Streatham in south London. She attended the BRIT school in Croydon and has been nominated for three Brit Awards. Cat released her debut single Fallen Out of Love in 2017 and broke into the mainstream in 2020 when her song 'Go' went viral on TikTok and eventually shot to number two on the UK singles chart. Ever since, Cat has continued to gain recognition for her music; she has been nominated three times for the Brit Awards and she was a BBC Sound Poll 2023 shortlist inductee.

Is Cat Burns neurodivergent?

Cat has previously spoken about her experiences of being a Black, queer, neurodivergent woman in music in an interview with Brick magazine. 'I’m not one before the other, they all exist within me in this in the same way,' she said. 'So I always try and be vulnerable and speak about my experiences as honestly as I can…but I don’t want to be the spokesperson.'

In 2021, Cat was diagnosed with ADHD and in April 2023, she tweeted about also being diagnosed with ASD (autism spectrum disorder).

How old is Cat Burns?

Cat Burns was born on 6 June 2000, making her 25 years old.

Why did Cat Burns apply for Celebrity Traitors?

Cat outlined her reasons for taking part in the show to the BBC. 'It’s just one of those opportunities and situations that just never really happens, a once in a lifetime offer really. And I have always been really intrigued to see if I would, one, be able to work out who the Traitors are, and two, if I was a Traitor, if I would be able to keep up the mystery of it,' she said.

She also explained that she's excited for people to see a new side to her. 'I think my songs are very soul bearing and very emotional and there’s a vulnerability to them in that regard. But most people who know me personally know that I'm the least serious person ever. I laugh before I cry. I think people will see that side to me; the lighter side that doesn't take things too seriously and is here for fun,' she said.

Of course, we now know Cat has been cast as a Traitor which means she has to keep her real identity under wraps throughout the entire game. Has she got what it takes? We'll have to wait to see.

Cat Burns is a lesbian and has a girlfriend named Jodie, who she has been dating in 2021.

Speaking to Time Out, Cat opened up about her sexuality and how queer Black women are often left out of the conversation – something she is keen to change. 'I think there has to be more conversation when it comes to Black lesbians. The "renaissance" feels very white-led. There are people that are forgotten, I would like for more Black lesbians and Black queer women to be included within that conversation, like myself! I think sometimes I forget to talk about my queerness because it’s just so ingrained,' she explained.

'My whole existence is through a queer lens, and maybe I forget to be more vocal about it. I can't lose sleep over it, but I think I should be included if we’re having more conversations about bloody lesbians. I’m here!'
