The sections being replaced have been repaired many times, and new plastic pipes will provide a permanent solution to maintain gas supplies to the area. The initial six week stage of the SGN works will start in London Road at the junction with Locks Lane, which will require the intersection to be closed. Temporary multi-way traffic lights will be installed in London Road and Streatham Road to control the traffic flow around the site. Access will be maintained for residents and businesses and a signed diversion via London Road-Holborn Way-Upper Green West-Upper Green East-Cedars Avenue-Tamworth Lane, and vice versa. Once this first phase is complete, the work will move further along London Road towards Mitcham Town Centre.
