Description

British Transport Police (BTP) have confirmed that officers were called to the incident at Island Gardens DLR station just before 5.30pm on December 11.

The passenger sustained a head injury after falling down the stairs at the Isle of Dogs station, Transport for London (TfL) has said.

Paramedics took the customer to hospital, but they died there three weeks later on January 3.

A spokesperson for BTP said that the incident is “not being treated as suspicious” and that a file will be prepared for the coroner.

The incident was first revealed in documents for a TfL board meeting that was held earlier this month on February 5.

Other safety incidents on the TfL network mentioned in the report include the death of an Elizabeth line staff member after an assault at Ilford station on December 4.

A passenger died in hospital a week after falling as the bus they were travelling on moved away from a bus stop in Finchley Road on December 28.

A cyclist died at the scene of a crash involving a London bus in Westferry Road, Isle of Dogs, on November 23.

In Streatham Hill, there was a different crash between a cyclist and a bus on December 14.

The cyclist died in hospital two weeks later.

The TfL report says: “Safety is the priority in everything we do, and it is neither inevitable nor acceptable that anyone should be killed or seriously injured when travelling in London.

“We remain committed to eliminate all deaths and serious injuries on London’s transport network by 2041, and to ensure no one is killed on, or by, a bus by 2030.”
