Man fined £1,070 for using phone while driving BMW

Their cases, concluded between May 14 and May 22 2025, involved motorists and residents from Eltham, Streatham Hill, Crayford, Welling, Bexleyheath and even Chatham.

Shariff Mohammed, 53, of Sandling Rise, Eltham must pay £240 in a fine, costs and a surcharge for exceeding the 40 mph limit on the A20 Sidcup By-Pass on July 11, 2024.

His licence was endorsed with three penalty points when the matter was dealt with on May 21, 2025.

Abishai Maxwell-Carr, 33, of Leigham Avenue, Streatham Hill must pay £1,070 in a fine, court costs and a surcharge for using a hand-held mobile phone while driving a BMW in Redcar Street, SE5 on June 4, 2024.

Magistrates added six penalty points at the sentencing hearing on May 20, 2025.

Joseph Famurewa, 56, of Chesson Road, West Kensington must pay £701 in a fine, costs and a surcharge after admitting he drove with 59 mcg of alcohol in 100 ml of breath (legal limit 35) through Woolwich town centre on May 3, 2025.

He received a 15-month driving ban, to be cut by 15 weeks if he completes a drink-driver course, when he appeared on May 20, 2025.

Ben Wilders, 26, of Halcot Avenue, Bexleyheath must pay £365 in fines, costs and a surcharge for possessing cocaine and cannabis in Crayford on May 19, 2025.

Both drugs were ordered to be forfeited and destroyed when he was sentenced on May 20, 2025.

Liviu Ursei, 39, of Burgate Close, Crayford must pay £169 in a fine, costs and a surcharge for exceeding a 20 mph zone on Eynsham Drive, SE2 on June 9, 2024.

Three penalty points were imposed at the hearing on May 21, 2025.

Alfred Ogbajie, 67, of Budleigh Crescent, Welling must pay £100 in a fine and surcharge for travelling at 25 mph in a 20 mph zone on Academy Road, SE18 on February 18, 2024.

After a statutory declaration the sentence was re-imposed on May 14, 2025, with three points deemed served.

Paul Carter, 61, of Mary Court, Chatham must pay a £72 fine plus a £28 surcharge (no costs) for driving at 46 mph in a 40 mph zone on the A20 Sidcup By-Pass at 10.29pm on April 30, 2024.

His case was reopened and re-sentenced on May 15, 2025; three points were added to his licence.

Devashish Das, 49, of Nesbitt House, Gravel Hill Close, Bexleyheath must pay £299 in a fine, costs and a surcharge for exceeding a 20 mph zone on Forest Road, Walthamstow on October 9, 2024.

Magistrates endorsed his licence with three points at sentence on May 22, 2025.
