Santander, which is rivalled by Barclays, Lloyds, Nationwide, TSB, NatWest, HSBC UK, Halifax and more, says it will be scrapping counters at five locations and switching to a "counter-free" format.

Branches affected are Gravesend - 4 King Street, Gravesend, Kent, DA12 2HH from next Monday, Liverpool - 17 Allerton Road, Liverpool, Merseyside, L18 1LG August 4, 2025 and Camberley - 72-78 High Street, Camberley, Surrey, GU15 3RS August 11, 2025.

Orpington - 225 High Street, Orpington, Kent, BR6 0NP August 11, 2025 and Rotherham - 20-22 Effingham Street, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, S65 1AJ August 11, 2025.

A spokesperson for Santander said: "As customer behaviour changes, we are ensuring that our branches remain fit for the future.

"Our new combination of full-service branches, alongside Work Cafés, counter-free branches and reduced hours branches, aims to provide the right balance between digital banking and face-to-face money management and guidance.

"As a business, we must move with customers and balance our investment across all the places where we interact with customers, to deliver the very best for them now and in the future."
