The A23, Streatham High Road was closed until 11am following a crash in the early hours.

A 27-year-old man has injuries which have been assessed as life-threatening and a 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Ambulance crews arrived in less than five minutes and treated a patient for a head injury before taking them to a major trauma centre.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “On Wednesday, 24 June at around 01:10hrs, police were called to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian on Streatham High Road, Streatham.

“Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance.

“The pedestrian, a 27-year-old man, was assessed at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital. His injuries have since been assessed as life-threatening.

“The driver, a 20-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in custody.

“The investigation continues as detectives appeal for CCTV footage or witnesses from the area at the time of the incident. Anyone with relevant information or footage is asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD408/24JUN. Alternatively, you can call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0207 960 8044.

“Information can also be provided anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.”
