A crash on a major south London road is causing significant disruption this morning. The A235 Brighton Road is blocked northbound between Purley Downs Road and Biddulph Road, with congestion in both directions. Long queues have built up through Purley and South Croydon since the incident was reported at around 8.40am. Bus routes 60, 312, 359, 407 and 466 are on diversion while the road remains closed. Southern trains hit by travel disruption this week Submitted by daniel on Mon, 24/08/2026 - 17:00 Picture Image Engineering work is taking place between Tulse Hill and Selhurst, closing various lines very early on Tuesday to Thursday mornings (August 25 to August 27). As a result, the 12.01am train from London Bridge to Selhurst will divert after Tulse Hill and terminate at Norwood Junction. A replacement bus will run from Tulse Hill to Selhurst, calling at Streatham Common and all stations via Streatham Common to Selhurst. These changes will come into effect from Saturday, August 15, 2026. Route 71 will see its frequency restored to every eight minutes during the daytime on Mondays to Saturdays, and every 12 minutes during the evenings and all day on Sundays. Route 250 will operate on a temporary timetable due to roadworks on Streatham High Road. The frequency will be widened to every seven to eight minutes during the daytime on Mondays to Fridays, and to every eight to nine minutes on Saturdays. A 19-year-old was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital. His injuries have since been confirmed as neither life-threatening nor life-changing. No arrests have been made at this stage.
