A Sky Full of Colour: Kite Day Delights Streatham Common

On the 10th of May 2026, voluntary organisation ‘Friends of Streatham Common’ will be hosting the yearly ‘Kite Day’ on Streatham Common, from 11am to 5pm. Friends and family gather on the green to admire the splashes of colour that paint the sunny spring sky.

As the wind picks up, the sky is filled with an extraordinary variety of kites of all shapes and sizes, some homemade, lifting in short bursts before crashing to the ground, others expertly made, soaring in the wind.

Southern trains in Croydon cancelled this last week of April

This is due to engineering work and will affect trains from Monday to Friday (April 27 to May 1).

We have broken down the details for you to plan ahead.

Tuesday to Friday (April 28 to May 1):

Engineering work is taking place overnight between East Croydon, Purley, Caterham and Tattenham Corner, closing some lines.

At the end of service on early Tuesday to Friday mornings, buses will replace trains between the four stations.

South London fraudsters have lenient sentences increased

Career scammers Mark Leacock and Justin Reis were part of an organised phone scam that systematically targeted elderly and vulnerable people in Surrey between October 2024 and February 2025.

Their six victims were aged between 75 and 92, with losses totalling £7,525.29 and a further attempted fraud halted only when one victim’s daughter intervened.

Victim statements described lasting anxiety, heightened suspicion about callers and visitors, changes to daily routines and, in some cases, embarrassment and fear within their families.

Streatham bus crash leaves child injured in hospital

Police were called to the crash on Leigham Court Road near Etherstone Road in Streatham at around 4.15pm on April 20.

Paramedics treated an 11-year-old boy and took him to hospital where his injuries are not life-threatening or changing.

SL15 bus Eltham to Clapham - all the schools on the route

Transport for London (TfL) has officially confirmed plans to go ahead with the SL15 bus route, running between Clapham Junction and Eltham, following strong support shown during an online consultation.

Following feedback, TfL confirmed a number of changes to the SL15 Superloop route, including revising stop and standing arrangements at Clapham Junction and dropping plans to use space under the Falcon Road railway bridge.
