Description

The 27-year-old pedestrian was struck in a collision on Streatham High Road, shortly after 1 am on Wednesday.

Emergency services attended the scene, including London’s Air Ambulance.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "On Wednesday, 24 June at around 01:10 hrs, police were called to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian on Streatham High Road, Streatham.

"Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance.

"The pedestrian, a 27-year-old man, was assessed at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital.

"His injuries have since been assessed as life-threatening.

"The driver, a 20-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

"He remains in custody."

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service confirmed the scale of the response.

He said: "We were called at 1.08 am today, June 24, to reports of a road traffic collision on Streatham High Road, SW16.

"We sent resources to the scene including ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic, paramedics in fast response cars, an emergency responder, and an incident response officer.

"We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.

"Our first crews arrived in less than five minutes.

"We treated a patient for a head injury and took them to a major trauma centre.

"We also assessed two other people but they did not require treatment."
