TfL want to scrap the popular 415 route from Tulse Hill – see proposals, maps and diagrams here

TfL has announced that they intend to axe the popular 415 bus route serving Tulse Hill and replace it with an extended 333 bus route – that goes nowhere near Tulse Hill.

Bus route 415 currently operates between the Old Kent Road (Tesco) and Tulse Hill station, and bus route 333 currently operates between Tooting Broadway Station and Elephant & Castle (you can see how these routes operate today by scrolling down).

TfL say that they want to to extend the 333 from Elephant & Castle to Old Kent Road (Tesco) via the routeing of the current bus route 415.

Posting on social media, Bell Ribeiro-Addy MP shared her reservations about the proposed cut:

I share concerns about proposals to scrap the 415 bus route serving many residents in Tulse Hill.

Tulse Hill is already under-served for bus links. It is not unusual for buses travelling through the neighbourhood towards Brixton to fill up during rush hour.

These plans will make it harder for commuters in particular to rely on this route.

Thank you to everyone who has already written to me about this. I will be raising your concerns with TfL and the Mayor.

Posters on the Tulse Hill forum added their thoughts on the plans:

N: TFL consulting to get rid of the 415, the only bus you have a hope in hell of getting on on Tulse Hill in the morning rush hour, while the 2 and 432 drive past absolutely stuffed with people.

LO: I just sent TFL an email about it as I regularly use the 415 to get from Tulse Hill to Kennington. TFL haven’t provided any reason for trying to scrap the route.

TP: It also provides good crowd relief going the other way from Brixton in the evening.

Bus route 333 proposed restructure

Current Route: Operates between Tooting Broadway Station and Elephant & Castle via Streatham, Tulse Hill, Brixton, Stockwell, Oval and Kennington

Proposed Route: Re-structured to be extended from Elephant & Castle to Old Kent Road (Tesco) via the routeing of the current bus route 415.

The extension of bus route 333 would see the route continue onto New Kent Road at Elephant & Castle and would use different bus stops at Elephant & Castle than it does currently.

Our proposal would introduce new direct links on bus route 333 between Old Kent Road and Stockwell, Streatham and Tooting.

Bus route 415 proposed withdrawal

Current Route: Operates between Old Kent Road (Tesco) and Tulse Hill station via Kennington, Oval and Elephant & Castle.

Proposal: Withdraw the route entirely.

Bus route 415 would be withdrawn so some passengers who currently use it may lose direct links to some destinations.

For example, people who travel between Old Kent Road and destinations between 1) Oval and Brixton, and 2) Brixton and Tulse Hill would need to change between buses in future.

Elephant & Castle can act as an interchange hub for journeys between Old Kent Road and destinations between Oval and Brixton as it would provide same stop interchange options for passengers between bus route 333 and bus route 133.

Brixton can act as an interchange hub for journeys between Old Kent Road and destinations between Brixton and Tulse Hill as it would provide same stop interchange options for passengers between bus routes 2 and bus route 432 and bus route 333.
