Water supply disruption hits Thornton Heath and Streatham during hot weather - London Now
Description

The affected areas, including Thornton Heath (CR7) and Streatham (SW16), have seen an increase in water demand due to the hot weather, leading to some customers facing low water pressure or temporary supply loss.

This issue is more pronounced for those living in higher areas or on upper floors.

Thames Water has been working "around the clock" to maintain the water supply, implementing various measures to stabilise the situation.

A spokesperson for the company said: "We are closely monitoring the network and using a range of measures to help keep supplies while storage levels recover.

"We have carried out repair works which has helped improve the situation, and water supplies are continuing to stabilise.

"We know how important a reliable water supply is and are sorry for the disruption some customers are experiencing."

As of 9am today, June 25, the company confirmed the water supply had improved in many areas, though some may still experience issues as the network recovers.

The unusually high demand on the water network came after a period of extreme daytime temperatures, followed by overnight thunderstorms.

Thames Water anticipates the impact on supplies to continue into the weekend, especially during periods of sustained hot weather, which may lead to further instances of low pressure or temporary supply loss.

The company advises customers, particularly those living in higher-lying areas or on the upper floors of apartment blocks, to keep a small supply of water aside for essential use.

On June 24, at 7.34am, Thames Water reported that they had been redistributing water across the network to maintain supplies in all areas.

This process caused air to enter part of the water main, affecting the water supply to some customers.

Thames Water's team is currently on-site working to remove the trapped air and restore normal service as quickly as possible.

If the issue persists, they plan to implement alternative measures to minimise disruption.

Thames Water has apologised for the inconvenience and expressed gratitude for residents' patience while they work to restore supplies.

The company has also advised those who may need extra support to register for their free Priority Services Register.

This service will help them understand individual situations better and provide the necessary assistance.

The water company continues to monitor the situation closely and promises to provide further updates as soon as there are any significant developments.

The next update is expected by 6pm today.

In the meantime, Thames Water expressed its commitment to resolving the issue and restoring normal service as quickly and safely as possible.

As this situation unfolds, patience and understanding from all affected residents are appreciated.
