One dead after crash at level crossing at Stretham, near Ely Submitted by daniel on Tue, 03/03/2026 - 08:00 Picture Image British Transport Police (BTP) said it was called to Dimmocks Cote level crossing on the A1123 at Stretham, between Waterbeach and Ely, Cambridgeshire, at about 10:15 GMT on Tuesday after reports of a collision involving a train and a car. "Officers responded alongside paramedics and sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene," said a BTP spokesperson. National Rail said all lines between Waterbeach and Ely were closed and no trains were running between Cambridge North and Ely. Surrey biker admits killing woman, 86, crossing south London road Submitted by daniel on Mon, 16/02/2026 - 14:35 Picture Image A motorcyclist has pleaded guilty to knocking down and killing an 86-year-old woman as she crossed a road. Radu Tomescu, 32, was travelling between 37mph [60 km/h] and 40mph in a 30mph limit in wet and possibly icy conditions when he hit Joan Brown, the Old Bailey heard. Brown had pressed the button at a crossing on Streatham High Road, in south London, on 8 March, 2023, and was waiting for the lights to turn red. Tomescu, from Camberley, Surrey, denied causing Brown's death by dangerous driving but pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving on Monday. Lloyds Banking Group to close another 95 branches Submitted by daniel on Wed, 11/02/2026 - 17:08 Picture Image Another 95 branches will be closed by Lloyds Banking Group, as many banks continue to reduce their presence on the High Street. The group said 53 Lloyds, 31 Halifax and 11 Bank of Scotland sites would shut between May this year and March 2027. Lloyds, the biggest banking group in the UK, said it offered a range of options for people to manage their money. The latest announcement is in addition an ongoing closure programme by the bank which will see 49 sites shut by October. Trains across these networks may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised, the rail firms say. Thameslink's Brighton to Cambridge line remains suspended and trains on various routes are not stopping at London Bridge. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said it would wait to issue gross misconduct papers against Metropolitan Police officer Martyn Blake, who shot Chris Kaba in September 2022. A legal change is expected to come into force in the spring over the tests used to bring criminal charges and misconduct proceedings against officers over use of force. Three deny CS spray robbery at Heathrow Airport Submitted by daniel on Thu, 08/01/2026 - 13:23 Picture Image Three men have denied attacking women with CS spray during a robbery at Heathrow Airport which left more than 20 people needing medical treatment. Tyrone Richards, 31, Anton Clarke-Butcher, 24, and Omoneke Whyte, 30, have been charged with stealing two suitcases from two separate women and using the noxious spray on both, Isleworth Crown Court heard. They each face two counts of robbery, two counts of administering a noxious substance, and one count of affray following the incident on 7 December 2025. They deny all charges.
