Work on the next phase of improvements on the A23 Streatham Hill will begin in September, with temporary traffic restrictions in place while the final major elements of the scheme are completed. The A23 through Streatham has a poor safety record, with a number of collisions resulting in serious injuries and even deaths. These improvements will make it easier to cross busy roads, provide protected space for people cycling and deliver more reliable bus journeys through the area, making the streets of Streatham safer.

Work on the next phase of improvements on the A23 Streatham Hill will begin at the end of this month, with temporary traffic restrictions in place while the scheme is delivered.

Transport for London has announced construction work will start this summer on a major new scheme to make A23 Streatham Hill safer and better for residents and those visiting the area.

The scheme, developed in close partnership with Lambeth Council, will create new pedestrian crossings, a protected cycling route and improvements to bus lanes in the area.

Lambeth Council has suspended the Streatham Wells Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) trial in response to concerns about public transport delays and anticipated disruption from planned Transport for London (TfL) construction works on the A23 starting later this spring, says Brixton Buzz.

“The Streatham Wells LTN trial was introduced in October last year to reduce road danger and make the neighbourhood safer and healthier by restricting motor vehicle access to streets within the scheme.
