In a report released today (January 13) the government inspectors said they found strong work to achieve positive change for children across assessing, planning and delivery when they visited Lambeth in October.

They also said the council team displayed an understanding of how trauma impacted children’s wellbeing and adopted a trauma-informed approach. Its practitioners worked alongside children and ensured their voices and opinions were heard, which influenced the work undertaken with them.

The council is proposing to install Phase 3 of the Healthy Route, extending it from the South Circular to Park Hall Road, after having consulted residents about the plan.

The Brockwell Park-Gipsy Hill route is a key part of the Healthy Route network and the Cycleway network, both of which link people with destinations including schools, workplaces, amenities and shops.

The honours list, published by the Government on Monday 29, December is granted by the King to deserving people from all walks of life, in public recognition of their merit, service or bravery. It also saw others in Lambeth honoured for their services to education, young people and politics.

Cllr Holland has been the leader of Lambeth Council since 2021 and the chair of London Councils, the representative body for local authorities in the capital, since 2023.

Lambeth Council invites you to nominate your local heroes for a Civic Award. The awards aim to recognise the incredible work that Lambeth’s community does to help others.

Nominations for all seven of the awards categories of awards opened on 18 December and close at midnight on 25 January 2026. Once the application deadline is closed, all entries will be considered for shortlisting by a panel of community partners and Lambeth Council Leaders.

Cllr Claire Holland and Cllr Rezina Chowdhury, the leader and deputy leader of Lambeth Council, met Andy Lord the Commissioner of Transport for London on December 8 at Lambeth Town Hall.

They stressed the importance of a series of local projects to residents, including the transformational Vauxhall gyratory removal scheme, the redevelopment of Waterloo station and surrounding area as well as the importance of improvements at Tulse Hill gyratory.

Plans for a new traffic filter at the junction of Palace Road and Leigham Vale, part of the Streatham Hill LTN, have been published by Lambeth Council.

The tweak to the existing scheme follows traffic monitoring which showed a significant increase in cut-through traffic on sections of Palace Road and Probyn Road since the scheme was last assessed, with over 3,700 vehicles a day passing down Palace Road. Speeding is a real concern for local residents, with close to 40% of vehicles on Probyn Road breaking the limit, and 29% on Palace Road.

The new homes in Leigham Court Road, close to Streatham Hill station, will be 50 per cent affordable by unit and include 15 social rent homes for Lambeth residents on the housing register.

This latest planning decision marks the second approval this year for a Lambeth partnership development under the New Homes Programme commitment to accelerating the delivery of affordable housing in the borough.
