Bonfire Night 2025: Firework shows in south west London

The first week of November will see many local parks, schools, and clubs hosting fireworks events in celebration of Firework Night, which this year falls on Wednesday, November 5.

Even if you haven’t bagged yourself tickets yet, there are still plenty of displays with tickets available.

Here’s everything you need to know:

Battersea Park Fireworks

Where: Battersea Park, Albert Bridge Road, London SW11 4NJ

When: November 1 and 2. Fireworks at 8.30pm on November 1 and 7pm on November 2.

Woodbourne Avenue Streatham murder probe: Man charged

Police were called to Woodbourne Avenue on May 16 following the death of 81-year-old Robert Hill.

At the time, his death was not believed to be suspicious.

However new information then came to light, which led to a murder investigation being launched.

David Souttar, 22, of Chelsham Road in Clapham, was charged with murder last Thursday (October 23) after being arrested on October 16.

He appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court the day after (October 24), where he was remanded into custody.

Firefighters battle blaze at shop and flats with people evacuated nearby

Crews brought the fire under control after tackling the flames for more than three hours at the property in Perry Vale, Forest Hill – which is made up of a shop on the ground floor and flats above.

Part of the ground floor shop and single-storey workshop at the rear of the store remained alight early on Friday morning.

An image posted on social media by the LFB showed firefighters outside skiing and snowboarding store Finches Emporium.

Videos taken by eyewitnesses captured tall, bright flames and billowing smoke near buildings.

Connor Barrett earns leaders Walsall point at Crawley

Barrett cancelled out Ryan Loft’s first-half header as struggling Crawley gained their first point in four games.

The hosts missed a penalty in only the fourth minute after Rico Brown brought down Max Anderson as Harry McKirdy’s tame spot-kick was turned around a post by goalkeeper Myles Roberts.

But the Red Devils made the breakthrough after 32 minutes thanks to a close-range header at the far post by striker Loft from McKirdy’s cross.

17-year-old fighting for his life after north London shooting

Police were called to reports of a shooting on High Road, Arnos Grove, at 5.04pm on Thursday.

The teenager was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition, the Metropolitan Police said on Saturday.

Detective Sergeant Catherine Dempster, leading the investigation, said: “We recognise the shock and concern this will have caused the local community in Arnos Grove and are working at pace to identify the perpetrators.

“This cannot be done without assistance from the public.

Six injured after shootings and stabbings across London

The capital has seen bloodshed every day this week between Monday and Friday (October 6 to October 10).

This includes knife incidents in Streatham, West Drayton, Kilburn, Waterloo and gun shots fired in New Southgate and Walthamstow.

The first incident this week began in Streatham Hill, after a stabbing outside a Starbucks on Monday (October 6) at around 1pm.

Bass player Lodge, who joined the band in 1966 with fellow singer Justin Hayward – following the departure of Denny Laine and Clint Warwick in 1966, was “suddenly and unexpectedly taken from us”, according to his family.

Their statement read: “It is with the deepest sadness that we have to announce that John Lodge, our darling husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law and brother has been suddenly and unexpectedly taken from us.

Man shot by police after ‘threatening to harm others’ during four-hour stand-off

Family members called 999 at 10am on Friday reporting the man was inside a property in Stow Crescent, Walthamstow, armed with a gun and threatening to harm himself, the Metropolitan Police said.

For hours, armed officers and negotiators were on scene as the man inside threatened to seriously harm anyone coming into the address and shoot himself.

At around 2pm, after a bang was heard inside, officers entered the property and discharged their weapons, Scotland Yard said.

The man was taken to hospital with life-changing but not life-threatening injuries.

A man in his 20s was found injured outside Starbucks in Streatham Hill at around 1pm yesterday (October 6).

He was taken to hospital where his injuries were assessed not to be life-changing or threatening.

In the latest update, officers confirmed there have still been no arrests.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Around 1pm on Monday, October 6, officers attended Streatham Hill, following reports of a stabbing.

“A man, aged in his 20s, was treated at the scene for a stab wound.

Man and teen fighting for lives after London violence

Two of the incidents took place in south London, with one reported in Wallington and one in Streatham.

Another one took place in Southall.
