The project aims to create a safer and more reliable road for all users, with protected cycle lanes, dedicated bus lanes in both directions and improvements for pedestrians. Lane restrictions are currently in place in both directions between Holmewood Road on A23 Brixton Hill and Sternhold Avenue on A23 Streatham Hill. Changes to nearby roads and junctions may cause delays, especially for northbound traffic. Overnight closures are also scheduled as part of the works. These closures are required to update traffic management and install safety barriers. Signed diversions will be in place and Streatham Hill Low Traffic Neighbourhood restrictions will be suspended during these periods. Further overnight closures will be announced in due course. TfL is advising drivers to plan ahead and consider alternative modes of transport. People making local journeys are encouraged to walk or cycle where possible. Longer, non-stopping journeys should avoid the area and use the A24 or A3 instead. Parking along the affected stretch of the A23 will be suspended for the duration of the works, and some bus stops may be temporarily relocated or closed. Buses will continue to run on their usual routes during lane restrictions but will follow diversions during overnight closures on Sunday, August 3 and Monday, August 4). TfL advises all road users to allow extra time for their journeys and to check its website for the latest travel updates.
