Brixton Chamber Orchestra announces Christmas Estates Tour 2025 — 11 free concerts across Lambeth - Brixton Buzz
Description

This December, the Brixton Chamber Orchestra (BCO) embarks on its much-loved Christmas Estates Tour 2025, bringing free, high energy live music to 11 housing estates across Lambeth.

The tour will run from 12th – 21st December 2025, transforming community halls and local spaces into festive pop-up concert venues.

Comprising a full orchestra ensemble of young, dynamic musicians, the orchestra offers a genre-blending programme that spans classical, carols, grime, jazz, pop, and seasonal favourites — all woven into a joyful, accessible experience.

Key Highlights of the Tour:

Community-first access: All concerts are free, with no tickets required — reinforcing BCO’s commitment to making live orchestral music available at people’s doorsteps.

One of the tour venues this year is Streatham Hill Theatre, a magnificent 2000 seat venue that was London’s largest theatre outside the West End. • Inclusive, genre-rich performance: The setlist brings together orchestral staples, festive classics, and contemporary styles like rap, grime, and R&B, reflecting the diverse musical tastes of the community.

Open mic & local talent: BCO has incorporated open-mic segments, allowing local residents — singers, rappers, poets — to perform alongside the orchestra, strengthening community bonds.

The annual event is made possible thanks to National Lottery funding allocated by Arts Council England with additional support from Brixton Brewery and Equip Event Services. The Streatham Hill concert has been given additional support from InStreatham BID.

Why the Christmas Estates Tour Matters

For many in Lambeth, the Christmas Estates Tour is more than a concert — it’s a community celebration. By bringing orchestral music into familiar, everyday spaces, BCO removes traditional barriers to the arts, offering an uplifting, accessible experience that resonates across generations through a mix of musical styles and genres.

The tour is a platform for nurturing emerging talent. By inviting local performers to join on stage, the orchestra fosters creativity, pride, and a shared cultural identity.

Matthew O’Keeffe, Artistic Director of BCO, says:

‘Christmas is something we can all get behind, in some way.

Our estates tour brings neighbours and the wider community together for a celebration of unity, togetherness and cultural diversity all at once.

We’re excited this year to be premiering a piece composed by our bassist Misha Mullov-Abbado specially for this tour!

We’re also playing in the Streatham Hill Theatre, which is a real hidden jewel’.
