Charity Begins in Streatham

Description

On the high street of Streatham, packed in between the Greggs and the Odeon you might encounter one of the many brilliant charity shops that Streatham has to offer.

Everybody knows you can buy clothing at these shops however not many people know they also sell books, kitchenware, children’s toys, CDs, records, DVDs and much more.

In the past few years, all of these shops have helped improve the area of Streatham and the rest of the world by giving their profits to charities like Cancer Research, Crisis and the British Heart Foundation.

Due to the abundance of charity shops many Streatham locals opt to use them over non-charity companies. Caitlin McLachlan, aged 16, who lives in Streatham said “I really enjoy the Crisis charity shop in Streatham because I love charity shopping, not just as someone that likes to shop but it also because it’s sort of a physical reminder of others in the world that are less fortunate, it also makes me happy as I get nice clothes whilst giving back to the community”.

Charity shops are becoming more popular with the younger generation as buying new clothes becomes expensive and the need to reuse becomes vital due to the climate crisis making Streatham charity shops of paramount importance.

Equally as important as buyers are suppliers. The people who donate their possessions to these charities are pivotal to their success; the way most of these charity shops gain their produce and therefore their profit is through donations from the local community.

The charity shops of Streatham truly do cater to the needs of everyone, so if you are in the area consider buying from one of these charity shops and helping out people in need.
