Clapham High Street stabbing - Man appears in court

Abdulkadir Mahamed, 22, was taken to hospital by his friends after he was stabbed in the early hours of Saturday, July 25.

He died a short time later.

Three men have been charged in relation to the incident and the investigation into further suspects remains ongoing.

Dvontre McCalla, 30, from Streatham, appeared at the Old Bailey on Tuesday (August 4) charged with murder.

Prosecutor Rebecca Hummerstone said that shortly after bars in the area closed and people were milling in the street a large fight broke out.

"Mr Mahamed, the deceased, was on one side of an argument and Mr McCalla and others on the other side of it," Ms Hummerstone said.

"There were weapons used on both sides of this particular incident and multiple injuries were caused to various people including this fatal incident to the deceased."

Four other men also attended hospital with stab wounds, but their injuries were not life-threatening or life-changing, the Met Police said.

Javed Khan, 22, of Wandsworth, has been charged with murder and violent disorder.

Adonay Berhan, 27, of Mason’s Avenue in Croydon, has been charged with assisting an offender.

McCalla was remanded in custody following a short hearing at the Old Bailey.

A provisional trial date has been set for March 2027.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lee, who is leading the investigation, said the day after the incident: "Our enquiries are progressing quickly, and we understand that the victim was stabbed at around 04:20 hrs close to Tremadoc Road in Clapham.

"Those in the area will continue to notice an increased police presence throughout the day as these enquiries continue.

"Officers have arrested six men on suspicion of murder and we are working quickly to establish what has happened."
