Fighting the heatwave: Where to find cool, air conditioned public spaces in Lambeth - brixtonbuzz.com
Description

With temperatures predicted to soar above the mid-30s C today, Lambeth has issued a reminder of the places where people can come in to cool down.

We’ve also added a link to an interactive map letting people find places near them which offer air conditioning.

Lambeth spaces

Flaxman Sports Centre

Ferndale Community Sports Centre

Brixton Recreation Centre

Clapham Leisure Centre

Herne Hill Lifestyle Centre

Streatham Ice and Leisure Centre

West Norwood Health and Leisure Centre

Some libraries do not have air conditioning, but will be cooler than outside and have fans:

Libraries

The following libraries offer cooler spaces and air-conditioned areas:

Lambeth Archives – air conditioning available

Clapham Library – limited air conditioning

Minet Library – air conditioning in the children’s library and ceiling fans in the adult library

Streatham Library – air conditioning available in several parts of the library

West Norwood Library – limited air conditioning and some fans available

Please note that Waterloo Library is closed and due to reopen on 29th August. Brixton Library is closed until 29th June 2026.

Find a local business with Air Conditioning

We’ve been sent a link to this interactive map which lets you look for places offering air conditioning near you.

You can see results for food/drink, hotels, entertainment, leisure, culture, and public buildings, although we noted that sometimes the map was horribly out of date.
