Horley picked up their first league win of the season in Surrey Women’s Division Two East, beating Streatham and Marlborough 2nd XI by 115 runs. Winning the toss at Horley Row on Sunday, Horley elected to bat and sent out a changed opening partnership of Megan Griffiths and Cat Andrews, a newcomer to the club. Andrews started steadily, but very soon picked up the pace, and the duo accrued 51 runs before Griffiths was out for 24, caught by Imogen McKenna off Liz Martin-Curtoud. Ella Gouldsborough joined Andrews and together they continued to amass runs at a good rate. Andrews reached the retirement mark of 50 from 46 balls (nine fours) and could not have hoped for a better start to her return to cricket. Kersti Meyer replaced her at the crease and continued the stream of runs. Next to retire was Ella Gouldsborough on 51 (49 balls, seven fours). Cheryl Douglas then partnered Meyer, who was going nicely until she left the wrong ball and was bowled by Estelle Lyons for a 31-ball 44 (eight fours). Douglas was soon run out and Hannah Woodruffe scored seven before a full toss got through and bowled her. Charlotte Gouldsborough (9 not out) and Krystal Leaver (8 not out) saw Horley through to the end of the 30 overs, running everything possible to ensure the team ended up on a great total of 222-4. Things soon went from bad to worse for Streatham as Sarah Preston then went on a bowling spree, taking the wickets of Vicky Bates for seven, Martin-Curtoud for 24 and the captain Meg Lyons for eight – all clean bowled. Feeling that Horley were totally in command, skipper Charlotte Gouldsborough decided to let some other bowlers have a chance and Woodruffe took the next player down, bowling Emma Crandon for nine runs. Not wanting to be out of the action too long, Preston returned and skittled the stumps once again, this time sending Faith Masters back to the pavilion for three runs. Preston finished her day with impressive stats of 4-20 from six overs. There was no way back for Streatham, at six wickets down and with their score still short of 100. The next two wickets were both taken by Charlotte Gouldsborough, bowling Ella Booker for one, then seeing Meyer hold a fantastic catch behind the stumps to dismiss Mahnoor Mateen for three. Imogen McKenna and Estelle Lyons saw the remaining overs out for the visitors and they finished on 107-8. Horley were happy to pick up 20 league points and enjoyed a fun game against lovely opponents. Web Link Horley Women too strong for Streatham - SussexWorld SussexWorld
