Description

Cllr Jonathan Bartley, Lambeth’s new Cabinet Member for Safer, Thriving Neighbourhoods, has commissioned a review of the council’s arrangements for sharing information and intelligence with immigration enforcement agencies.

Bartley, who was elected for Clapham Town in an historic election that saw Labour lose control of the borough for the first time in 20 years, said:

“Immigration raids are causing fear and dividing Lambeth’s communities.

As Refugee Week begins, it is right that we take a careful and transparent look at how information is shared in relation to immigration enforcement activity.”

The review will examine current policies, practices and partnerships across the council and its commissioned services, establishing what Bartley described as “a clear and transparent picture” of existing information-sharing arrangements.

“Lambeth is home to people from every corner of the world,” he said. “Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths and we want all residents to feel safe, valued and able to engage with public services without fear.”

The announcement comes against a backdrop of racist rampages that have swept through Southampton, Belfast, Glasgow and Liverpool – violence which politicians have accused Elon Musk of fuelling through his platform X – and coincides with the start of National Refugee Week.

Anti-racist campaigners have welcomed Bartley’s review, describing “a breath of fresh air from Lambeth’s new Green cabinet” and have announced a meeting tomorrow, Tuesday 16 June 2026 at Brixton Library to challenge racist narratives towards immigrants (see flyer below).
