Motorist Causes Collision by Pulling Out in Front of Double-Decker Bus - SWD Media
Description

A motorist who pulled out in front of a double-decker bus that was overtaking his stationary vehicle has refused to accept responsibility for the collision.

The incident occurred on Greyhound Lane, Streatham, on May 24, 2025.

CCTV footage of the crash has garnered 12,500 views, with 90% of commenters attributing blame to the car driver.

At the start of the video, a blue Mercedes can be seen parked at the side of the road, partially on the pavement, while the driver reverses to straighten up.

Vehicles moved into the centre of the road to overtake the car, which suddenly swerved in front of the bus without warning, resulting in a collision.

The platform below the front doors of the bus, as well as the rear panel and bumper of the Mercedes C-Class, sustained damage.

The driver parked over a junction for 17 minutes, demonstrating a disregard for the highway code and increasing the risk of further accidents.

One individual responded to the online footage by commenting: “I would suggest that if the driver of the blue car couldn’t see the big red bus, they should surrender their licence! You’re supposed to be able to see to drive!”

Another said: “The car driver has no awareness of anyone on the road, even when he pulled over afterwards and thought nothing of blocking a junction.”

A third wrote: “No mirrors, no indicators, and no brain it seems. If only buses were big enough to see and painted bright red, so they stand out.”

A fourth added: “The car driver is at fault then pulls over blocking a junction ready to cause more accidents. The guy needs his licence removing, clearly not safe to be on the road.”

Witness John Mulvey, 59, stated: “The driver initially refused to provide his details to the bus driver, claiming it wasn’t his fault.

“I showed him the video, and he then insisted that he had checked his mirrors and did not see the bus.

“It appeared to me that he attempted to race the bus and enter a gap that was too small, which also caused the bus to nearly collide with two parked cars.”

A TfL spokesperson said: “We are aware of this incident and are investigating alongside the operator Arriva.”

The Metropolitan Police confirmed there were no arrests and that only vehicle damage occurred.
