In photos: a packed Saturday night at Streatham’s Crown & Sceptre (Tu Pub Latino)

Located at the top of Brixton Hill, the Crown & Sceptre is a pub that has seen many changes over the years (it was once a Wetherspoons), but more recently it’s become a thriving, Latino-themed social hub.

We popped along on a jam-packed Saturday night and navigated a jumping dance floor to bring you these photos:

In a borough where the night economy is struggling to survive, it was great to see a community pub full of happy people, but the owners are still finding it hard to make ends meet as operating costs keep on rising.

Despite Lambeth loudly trumpeting the supposed benefits of their new Night-Time Economy Strategy, the licensing sub-committee recently turned down the bar’s application to extend opening hours until 3 am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Those extra hours can mean life or death for a bar, so we hope that a favourable outcome can be resolved swiftly for both the bar, the neighbours and the local community.

The bottle buckets proved popular.

There’s also a pool table at the back of the pub, which also regularly screens Premier League football.
