Streatham dad wins £230,000 Mercedes after 10-year wait

Inderjeet Singh, from Streatham, has spent years hoping to land his dream car and has now won a Mercedes-AMG G63 and a cash prize courtesy of BOTB's weekly online Dream Car Competition.

The win was particularly significant for the Singh family, as they have been going through a tough time with Mr Singh's wife currently undergoing cancer treatment.

Mr Singh has been entering the BOTB competition for about ten years and had previously come close to winning, finishing as runner-up twice, but he never gave up.

His persistence finally paid off when BOTB presenters Christian Williams and Nicole Jeffery arrived at his home with the life-changing surprise.

The BOTB team led him and his wife down the road, where the prize Mercedes-AMG G63 was waiting for them.

Mr Singh said: "I can't believe it. Is this real?

"We've been through a lot, and I was hoping one day this would happen."

The 49-year-old had been playing specifically for the Mercedes-AMG G63 since February 2021, making the win particularly special.

The car has a personal connection to the family: his father-in-law had always wanted a G-Wagen and had even taken one for a test drive before suffering a stroke.

The surprises didn't stop there.

Christian Williams revealed that the car wasn't the only prize, as £50,000 in cash was waiting in the boot.

Mr Singh said: "You've made my day, you've made my life."

In a moment that summed up the extraordinary timing of the day, Christian Williams spotted a £5 note lying on the floor during the surprise reveal and handed it to the Spot the Ball Competition winner.

He said: "It's my lucky day!"

The father-of-one is planning to put the money towards his business and take his family on holiday to India.

He runs a mobile phone shop and was back at work repairing phones on the very same day as his incredible win.

He said: "I want to expand my business, so this will be a great help. I also want to help my friends and family."

Speaking the following day, Mr Singh said he was still coming to terms with the win and the reaction it had sparked among his family, friends, and customers.

He said: "I'm over the moon and it was an amazing experience.

"The reaction has been mad.

"I've got a big family and lots of people know me from my shop, so I've had loads of calls and messages.

"My seven-year-old daughter was so happy, saying I was a champion, and she's already asked for an iPad."

BOTB presenter Christian Williams said: "Inderjeet has been playing for a long time and had come so close on a couple of occasions, so seeing his reaction when he realised the car was actually his was incredibly special.

"It's fantastic to hear that Inderjeet is planning to use the money to look after his family, invest in his business, and hopefully enjoy a much-needed family holiday."

Nicole Jeffery added: "It was an incredibly emotional reveal, particularly knowing what Inderjeet and his wife have been through.

"The fact that his wife was able to be part of the surprise made the moment even more memorable."

Founded in 1999, BOTB has given away prizes to more than a million people, including £170million-worth of cars so far.

It is currently offering people the chance to win a three-bedroom home in London worth £1.25 million in a competition costing just £1 to enter.

Mr Singh's win marks the culmination of a decade of playing with BOTB.

He first discovered the competition online.

He said: "I saw someone win and thought I would try as well.

"I said I will keep trying every day and I'm not giving up."
