Streatham Free Film Festival returns this September

Streatham will once again become a pop-up cinema this September as the Streatham Free Film Festival returns for its 11th year, writes Myfanwy Fleming-Jones…

From September 1 to 20, residents will be able to attend a programme of free film screenings and events at venues and outdoor spaces across Streatham and neighbouring communities.

The volunteer-run festival brings together local residents, businesses and community organisations, with screenings taking place in parks, pubs, churches, community venues, care settings and other local spaces.

The festival will launch with a film quiz night at the Rebel Inn on Tuesday September 1.

Anne-Marie McGregor, festival organiser, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be celebrating our eleventh year. What makes Streatham Free Film Festival special is that it’s built by the community, for the community.

“Every screening is organised by volunteers, and every year we’re amazed by the generosity of local businesses, venues and residents who help bring the festival to life. We can’t wait to welcome audiences back this September for another fantastic programme of free cinema.”

This year’s programme includes a number of free outdoor screenings, including:

Jurassic Park – Streatham Common, September 5

The Swimmers – Tooting Bec Lido, September 6

The Secret Agent – Crown & Sceptre, beer garden, September 8

Crazy, Stupid, Love with a singles social – The Manor Arms, September 10

Inside Out 2 – Streatham Library, September 12

Bruce Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere – Belmont Bowls Club, September 13

The Princess Bride – Hillside Gardens, September 19

The festival is supported by InStreatham, alongside local venues, businesses, sponsors and community organisations.

Audiences attending the outdoor screenings are encouraged to bring picnic blankets or camping chairs, as well as warm clothing.
