Streatham will once again become a pop-up cinema this September as the Streatham Free Film Festival returns for its 11th year, writes Myfanwy Fleming-Jones…

From September 1 to 20, residents will be able to attend a programme of free film screenings and events at venues and outdoor spaces across Streatham and neighbouring communities.

The volunteer-run festival brings together local residents, businesses and community organisations, with screenings taking place in parks, pubs, churches, community venues, care settings and other local spaces.

A partial solar eclipse will cover South London tomorrow, beginning at 6:17pm and ending at 8:06pm.

The eclipse will reach a maximum at 7:12pm, when 90% of the sun will be covered by the moon.

It will be the closest the UK has come to a total eclipse since 1999, according to Royal Museums Greenwich, and the closest we will get for another 55 years.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has advised eclipse viewers to purchase glasses that meet the ISO 12312-2 international safety standard to watch it safely.

Two by-elections have been triggered for Streatham St Leonard’s ward and Clapham Park ward within the London Borough of Lambeth.

Joanna Eaves became Clapham Park’s first Green councillor following the May 7 local elections but has had to resign due to ill health. A notice of casual vacancy for Clapham Park ward was published on Lambeth Council’s website on Monday (May 18).
