This is the highest recorded by Statista in a series stretching back to 2015-16. Figures for 2023-24 show there were 15,016 such offences, up from 12,786 in 2022-23, 11,122 in 2021-22 and 10,50 in 2020-21, according to Statista. The pollster said the increase in knife crime seen in London has happened alongside a general increase in overall crime throughout England and Wales. Local councillor, Martin Abrams, posted on X: "Really shocking stabbing incident in Streatham this afternoon. "Local Councillors are in touch with the Council and Police and will update with information as we get it. "There are police cordons in place along the High Road so please do what you can to avoid the area until further notice". A witness to the alleged stabbing outside Starbucks has described the horror of seeing "blood just everywhere". She wrote on X: "There’s been a stabbing in streatham and that’s like the first time i’ve seen blood just everywhere like that :/. real s*** man everyone stay safe, that’s so scary." One X user wrote: "Avoid Streatham hill as it’s been cornered off outside Starbucks - a person has been stabbed. Police are at the scene and diverting away. "I’m not sure on the wellbeing of the poor person - but praying for a recovery. Not sure if the attacker has been caught so please be safe." An image of the scene outside the Starbucks has been shared on social media platform X, showing a number of doctors tending to what appears to be a person on the floor.
