But many charity shops are struggling for survival as costs rise and sales slump in a challenging economic climate. The warning comes after Cancer Research UK recently announced its plans to close 200 shops. Disability charity Scope is also shutting 56 stores across England and Wales, while Oxfam and Barnado’s have reported sluggish sales. Between Monday, October 6 and Sunday, October 12, various projects and schemes will see stretches of key routes closed overnight, typically between the hours of 8pm and 6am. Each night between Monday and Friday, the M20 coastbound will close between Junction 7, near Maidstone, and Junction 9, for Ashford, from 8pm to 6am. This is the highest recorded by Statista in a series stretching back to 2015-16. Figures for 2023-24 show there were 15,016 such offences, up from 12,786 in 2022-23, 11,122 in 2021-22 and 10,50 in 2020-21, according to Statista. The pollster said the increase in knife crime seen in London has happened alongside a general increase in overall crime throughout England and Wales.
