The Coventry South MP recently quit the Labour Party to co-found Your Party with Jeremy Corbyn, declaring it “a new kind of political party… one that belongs to you.” Their launch statement on the Your Party website pledges to tax the richest, bring energy, water, rail and mail into public ownership, build council housing, defend the right to protest for Palestine, and campaign for climate justice. At the Brixton Jamm event, Sultana will be joined by Andrew Feinstein, the son of a Holocaust survivor, anti-apartheid campaigner and former ANC MP. Feinstein resigned from South Africa’s ruling party in protest at corruption and went on to become a leading critic of the global arms trade. At the 2024 general election he stood against Keir Starmer in Holborn & St Pancras, taking 18.9% of the vote and cutting the Labour leader’s majority. With Labour increasingly mimicking Reform UK’s far-right rhetoric on migrants, many progressives see the newly formed Your Party as the only viable option at the next general election. Early polling suggests it could reshape British politics: an Ipsos survey found one in five Britons would consider voting for it, rising to a third of under-35s and 43% of Green voters. Support climbs to 31% overall if the party allies with the Greens.
