The local policing team is inviting residents and interested parties to join them at their next Ward Panel Meeting at the beginning of October.

The Ward Panel is a community-led group where local residents meet regularly with the Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) made up of dedicated police officers and PCSOs assigned to Brixton.

The Met Police say:

Ideally chaired by a volunteer, the panel reviews local crime trends and discusses issues like antisocial behaviour, crime, or safety concerns.

This afternoon (Sat 19th Sept) there’s a mini market stall event taking place at the Brixton Streetwear unit in Brixton Village/Granville Arcade.

The market gives the opportunity for young artists to sell their streetwear pieces that they’ve been working on for the past few weeks.

DJ and live artists on the mic, @senseiapex, @onewaymello bringing pure vibes.

If you want to give your pooch a fun-packed day of splashing about in the water, sniffing other dogs’ nether regions while listening to – and we kid you not – ‘dog friendly DJs’ – then check out the upcoming Doggy Splash Days at Streatham Common Paddling Pool.

The first event is today, Saturday 19th September. Buttercup Bus will be on site serving up their fresh crepes, while the monthly market is also running at The Rookery opposite, and the Inkspot Brewery has its Shutters Up event.

The place has been looking increasingly run down in recent months, so it comes as no surprise to learn that the former WH Smith store in Brixton Road has announced that it will be permanently closing at the end of August 2026.

“On Friday, 22 May at 11:03hrs, police were called to reports of a road traffic collision between a pedestrian and a HGV on Clapham High Street, SW4.

“Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.

“A man in his 70s was assessed and treated at the scene by paramedics. Despite the efforts of the emergency services, the man was sadly pronounced dead at 11:36hrs.

“His next-of-kin have been informed.

In November last year we announced that a new Tesco Express store was going to take over the space formerly occupied by Costa Coffee on Brixton Road.

The transformation now almost looks complete, with the signage going up ahead of the opening of the store,

According to their licence application, they will be selling food and “alcohol for consumption off the premises” every day of the week from 6am to midnight and “late-night refreshment (indoors) on the following days: Monday-Sunday, 23:00-00:00.”

Clapham and Brixton Hill MP Bell Ribeiro-Addy this week led a trio of South London Labour MPs to help push through a Liberal Democrat Ten Minute Rule Bill calling for the UK to rejoin a customs union with the EU.

The bill, introduced by Lib Dem Europe Spokesperson Al Pinkerton MP, passed by the narrowest possible margin: a 100–100 tie, broken only by the Deputy Speaker’s casting vote. It was supported by just thirteen Labour MPs, including three from South London: Marsha de Cordova (Battersea), and Fleur Anderson (Putney) and Ribeiro-Addy.
