Here are the names and faces of the men and women who are have been sentenced to prison time in January 2025.

Sutton mum whose boys died in fire while home alone

Deveca Rose, 30, was jailed after her four young boys died in a fire at their Wallington home after she left them home alone to go to Sainsbury’s.

Rose had left her two sets of twins, aged three and four, in the locked terraced house when the blaze broke out on the evening of December 16, 2021.

The trust, which acts as the national advice and advocacy body for UK theatres, has named 44 theatres across the country that are threatened by closure due to structural issues, safety concerns, or redevelopment plans.

Many of these theatres, the trust says, are of significant historical and cultural importance and could remain valuable community spaces if given the right support.

In the south area of London, the two theatres at risk are Streatham Hill Theatre and Borough Hall in Greenwich.

Joe Lerwill, 37, of Streatham Hill, admitted driving whilst disqualified and failing to provide a specimen in Lambeth on both October 7, and driving whilst disqualified on November 11. Lerwill was given a 25-week prison sentence.

Claude Spencer, 51, of no fixed abode, admitted breaking into a car and stealing a suitcase on Limes Grove in Lewisham on Wednesday (January 8). Spencer was given a 10-week sentence suspended for a year and was ordered to pay £300 compensation.

A historic sex offender, a meth empire kingpin and a taekwondo coach were also locked up.

Four murderers

Three men from south London and one from east London were jailed for the murder of a 17-year-old boy.

Tyler McDermott died on April 14 last year, the day after he was shot in the head then stabbed with a machete while he was on the floor outside the studio in Norman Road, Tottenham.

This week Homebase was sold to CDS in a rescue deal securing up to 1,600 jobs and 70 stores.

But the future of 49 shops with 2,000 workers is currently uncertain after these stores were not included in the negotiations.

According to a list published by the Daily Mail, seven stores affected are within the capital - with four in south London.

We have reached out to Homebase for confirmation of this.

The bridge will close from 8am on Saturday, November 2 until 4pm on Sunday, November 3.

During this time, numerous bus routes will be diverted or terminated early:

When are the works taking place?

The works, over the week of half term from Saturday, October 26 until Friday, November 1, are set to take place in the area between Crystal Palace, Tulse Hill and Peckham Rye.

These works are being carried out by Network Rail and will affect travel on London Overground, Thameslink and Southern services.

Why is this happening?

The upgrades, overseen by Network Rail, are part of a £400 million programme to improve tracks and signalling systems in south London.

The work will affect trains from September 21 (Saturday) through to September 22 (Sunday).

We have compiled all the details on these works so that you can plan your journey this weekend.

September 21 and 22 (Saturday and Sunday):

Engineering work is taking place between Peckham Rye and Streatham, closing all lines.

Buses will replace trains between London Bridge and Streatham Common via Peckham Rye.

Trains which usually run between London Bridge and East Croydon via Peckham Rye will only run between Streatham and East Croydon.

A casualty on the tracks was reported at the station in Brigstock Road just before 8.20pm yesterday (September 20).

Officers and London Ambulance Service crews were called to the scene.

The person was pronounced dead shortly after.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

All lines between Streatham and Selhurst were closed as the incident was dealt with but it has since reopened.

The upgrade work means that no trains will run on parts of the National Rail and London Overground from Saturday, October 26 through to Friday, November 1.

These upgraded signalling systems will be implemented between Crystal Palace, Tulse Hill and Peckham Rye.

The changes are part of a £400 million programme of investment in track and signalling upgrades that Network Rail is delivering in south London.
