After the 110,000-strong Unite the Kingdom rally which Brixton Buzz described as “Christian fascism” (see our film below), the Rt Rev Christopher Chessun, Bishop of Southwark, publicly denounced “racism as sin” ahead of a cross-denominational church statement released on Sunday. At the march, far-right politicians from across Europe and the Anglosphere repeatedly painted immigrants as rapists, violent criminals, and an existential threat to Western civilisation. Billionaire Elon Musk insisted that “violence was coming” and used the event to call for deregulation and regime change in Britain, amplifying a volatile mix of racist and religious bigotry. “After the Unite the Kingdom rally last Saturday, it is clear that more work needs to be done to ramp up local organising in South London as the threat of racism and far-right mobilisation continues. I look forward to meeting and discussing how we can take collective action in this critical moment,” Ribeiro-Addy said. Joining her will be Samira Ali of Stand Up To Racism and Women Against the Far Right, alongside local campaigners. The online meeting will bring together activists from across South London to coordinate a grassroots response and ensure the boroughs remain places of solidarity and resistance.
