Although it’s fair to say that most of the places we passed have seen better days, it’s great to see that the Crown & Spectre is thriving, although they’ve been hampered by the council’s refusal to grant them an extended late night licence. Built in 1896, the Telegraph pub used to host some great parties before closing around 2009. Read some archived local discussion about the pub here and view archive photos here. The remains of old gas lamps remain in situ. Dumbarton Court, a stylish late 1930s private mansion block. This plot of land by Dumbarton Road has been empty for years. Yoga sign. The former George IV venue and pub closed its doors for good in 2013. We had some amazing parties there back in the day. We’re big fans of KataKata – a delicious and affordable vegan/vegetarian French/African creperie and art space. Read our review here. This shop by the Post Office has been closed for years. Great to see the White Horse so busy. Originally the site of Clark’s College in the early 1900s, the site was redeveloped and hosted Allied Carpets before being taken over by Sainsbury’s and an extra floor added on top. Deens Furniture is a real Brixton survivor.
