PC Paul Fisher, a specialist firearms officer, has been charged with a criminal offence in connection with the February 2020 incident, in which he was called to reports of a knife attack on members of the public.

He was one of the people who responded to Sudesh Amman, a 20-year-old Islamic extremist who was eventually shot dead by armed police in Streatham High Road while sporting a fake suicide vest.

On Monday, Fisher, a Surrey resident from Whyteleafe, made his initial court appearance to answer to the charge of dangerous driving.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a flat fire on Buckleigh Road in Streatham this morning (21 April).

Half of a ground-floor flat in a converted, two-storey house was damaged by the fire. Firefighters rescued a man from the ground-floor. A further five people left the building before the Brigade arrived. Two people were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

The Brigade was called at 0010 and the fire was under control at 0102. Fire crews from Norbury, West Norwood and Tooting fire stations were in attendance.

A 36-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of an 85-year-old man at a residential property in Streatham, Lambeth.

Amithraz Balgobin, of Woodbourne Avenue, Lambeth, was charged on Sunday, 6 July with murder and possession of Class A and Class B drugs. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 7 July.

A murder investigation has been launched in Streatham, South London, after an 85-year-old man was found dead at a residential property on Churchmore Road, Lambeth.

Emergency services were called to the address at around 1:00pm on Friday, 4 July, following reports from the London Ambulance Service. Officers from the Metropolitan Police arrived to find the elderly man had sustained multiple injuries.

Police were called at 10:27am on Monday, 16 September, to a Route 159 bus at the Streatham BR Station bus terminal after reports of a man in possession of a firearm.

Armed Officers from the Met Police quickly responded, boarding the bus and arresting the suspect on suspicion of possessing a firearm. A suspected air rifle was recovered at the scene.

There were no reports of any injuries, and the situation was brought under control without further incident. The investigation is ongoing.

A string of driving and drug-related offences brought eight defendants before Bexleyheath Magistrates’ Court this month, resulting in more than £3,000 in combined fines, costs and surcharges, as well as driving bans, licence endorsements and forfeitures.

The offences, ranging from speeding and drink-driving to mobile phone use and drug possession, were committed across Eltham, Streatham Hill, Crayford, Bexleyheath, Chatham, Welling and West Kensington. The hearings were held between May 14 and May 22, 2025.
